What is the National Pension Scheme (NPS)?

The National Pension Scheme (NPS) is a government-backed retirement savings scheme available to all Indian citizens. It helps you accumulate a retirement corpus by making regular contributions during your working years. Your corpus grows through market-linked returns on investments managed by pension funds.

How Does the NPS Calculator Work?

This NPS calculator estimates the expected retirement corpus and monthly pension based on your current age, monthly contributions, expected rate of return, and retirement age.

The calculation uses the compound interest formula for the future value of a series of contributions:

Future Value (FV) = P × [ ((1 + r/n)^(nt) - 1) / (r/n) ]

  • P: Monthly contribution amount
  • r: Annual rate of return (decimal)
  • n: Number of compounding periods per year (12 for monthly)
  • t: Number of years until retirement

The calculator also estimates a monthly pension based on the selected annuity percentage of the corpus, assuming a 7% annuity return.
